    Control of playgrounds

Children's playgrounds and play areas are vital for children's healthy emotional, physical and social development. Whilst developing their abilities, children learn to assess and manage risk in a controlled environment, namely playgrounds. The safety of the facilities, furniture, vegetation, etc. is of utmost importance, in addition to the design and planning.

The Inspection body Type-A of Bulgarkontrola S.A., accredited by the Bulgarian Accreditation Service (BAS), conducts safety assessments of new and/or commissioned outdoor and indoor playgrounds and the equipment, elements and surfaces installed thereon.

The Inspection Body's primary goal is to assist the state and local authorities and agencies to help authorities and structures at state and local level to increase the safety of public places and provide peace of mind to children, parents and owners of playgrounds.

Pursuant to the requirements of Regulation No. 1 dated January 12th, 2009 regarding the terms and conditions for the development and safety of playgrounds, controls shall be carried out when new playgrounds are made operational and maintained.

It is a regulatory requirement that periodic and annual baseline inspections shall be carried out on every playground open to the common public. The baseline inspection shall identify any changes that have occurred to individual structures and ancillary elements at play areas due to use, vandalism and weather conditions.
